Jose Emilio Exaire, MD

Dr. Exaire joined the Pauley Heart Center in the summer of 2016 as an associate professor of Medicine, specializing in interventional cardiology and peripheral arterial disease. He works downtown at the MCV Campus. He is board certified in general cardiology and internal medicine.
Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Dr. Exaire received his Doctor degree at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He completed Internal Medicine and Cardiology Fellowships in Mexico and then he completed an Interventional Cardiology and Peripheral Intervention Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio (2004).
Before joining VCU in 2016, Dr. Exaire was an associate professor of medicine at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, OK from 2007 to 2016 and he served as the director of the cardiovascular outpatient clinics from 2007-2013. He also served as the director of the Coronary Care Unit at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 2013-2016. Dr. Exaire is member of the American College of Cardiology and he has authored more than 40 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. He has also served as book editor for peripheral arterial disease books.
