Jose Huizar, MD
Jose Huizar, MD, Director of the Arrhythmia and Device Clinic at McGuire VA Medical Center, joined VCU Pauley Heart Center as Assistant Professor of Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Huizar attended medical school on a full medical scholarship at Universidad Anahuac School of Medicine in Mexico City, Mexico. After a post-graduate year in the internal medicine program at American British Cowdray Hospital, Mexico City, Dr. Huizar immigrated to the United States to continue his education and training. He did his internal medicine internship and residency at MetroWest Medical Center (University of Massachusetts), where he was appointed Chief Medical Resident. He completed his cardiology fellowship at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY and his clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Huizar is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. He is a fellow on the American College of Cardiology and is a member of the American Heart Association, and the Heart Rhythm Society.
Dr. Huizar has published numerous articles in scientific journals and is lead author on book chapters in Electrophysiological Disorders of the Heart, 2nd edition, and A Practical Approach to Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation.
His research interests include ventricular and phrenic nerve stimulation in cardiac resynchronization therapy, atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias and consequences of premature ventricular contractions.
