Ion S. Jovin, MD, ScD
Dr. Ion S. Jovin, Associate Professor of Medicine at VCU Pauley Heart Center, is director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at McGuire V.A. Medical Center. He is also Site Director of the VCU Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at the VA Medical Center and a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery/Cardiothoracic Surgery at Yale University, New Haven, CT.
Dr. Jovin earned his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania and a doctoral degree from Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. After working at the Georg August University in Goettingen, Germany, and at the Max Planck Institute/Kerckhoff Heart Center in Bad Nauheim, Germany, he came to the United States and did his residency training in Medicine at the Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, PA. He did his fellowship training in Clinical Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, where he also was a postdoctoral research fellow and a research associate in the Yale Vascular Biology and Transplantation Program.
Dr. Jovin’s research interests are in vascular biology, thrombosis and hemostasis, as well as coronary and peripheral interventions. Dr. Jovin is a reviewer for numerous professional journals and serves on the editorial board of several journals. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 articles, book chapters and abstracts. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology.
