Barbara D. Lawson, MD

Dr. Lawson joined the Pauley Heart Center in 2016 as an Assistant Professor, specializing in Interventional and Structural Cardiology.
Originally from Dallas, Texas, Dr. Lawson received her Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Chemistry from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where she graduated with Honors. While there, she was named the William Todd Midgett Scholar for Superior Clinical Practice. Dr. Lawson completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and trained in Cardiovascular Disease at the Cleveland Clinic. She was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award during her cardiology fellowship. Dr. Lawson returned to Johns Hopkins for subspecialty training in Interventional and Structural Cardiology.
Dr. Lawson’s clinical expertise includes coronary artery disease and structural heart disease. Her procedural skills include coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), balloon aortic valvuloplasty, percutaneous closure of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale, and alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Outside of the cath lab, Dr. Lawson’s interests include medical education and critical care cardiology.
